The story
The Ivory Club in Frankfurt launched when few believed an upscale Indian restaurant could sustain itself in Germany. The founders deliberately stepped outside their financial comfort zone to recreate the historic clubs where British and Indian members once gathered to share meals and conversation. That decision earned an immediate FIZZZ Award and established the venue as a lasting local institution. Today it operates alongside international successors while preserving its original blueprint.
The kitchen balances traditional spice techniques with contemporary plating, centering the menu around wood-fired tandoori preparations and slow-simmered curries. Diners often start with chilled plates like beef tartare served alongside crisp potato salad before moving into the richer mains. This steady approach to Indian cuisine earned the venue a two-ladle rating from the Schlemmer Atlas this year. The team continues to refine those flavors without chasing fleeting trends.
Sculpted elephants and muted colonial accents set the tone throughout the main dining floor, blending bistro charm with formal club aesthetics. Guests seeking a quieter setting can reserve the Elephant and Tiger Room, which carries the same refined English gentleman’s club heritage. The comfortable layout accommodates twenty diners at a time for business meetings or private celebrations. Subdued lighting and plush seating keep the focus firmly on the meal.
