The story
Restaurant Seeterrasse Flechtingen brings a relaxed approach to contemporary German cuisine to the banks of the Schloßsee since 1994, when the Tirschler family transformed a former bakery into a local destination. The owners expanded the property in 1998 with a large winter garden that projects directly over the lake surface. A complete interior refresh in 2016 modernized the space while preserving the original warmth of the Tirschler operation. Guests arriving by private pier can step straight onto the property, leaving the mainland behind without changing attire.
The kitchen emphasizes open-fire grilling and locally sourced proteins, highlighted by Argentinian black angus cuts served with house-made herb butter. Daily selections shift with the seasons, featuring pan-fried zander filets with remoulade and crisp-skinned Norwegian salmon alongside tagliatelle. Comfort classics appear throughout the German culinary tradition, including an original soljanka packed with pickled vegetables and a ragout finished with melted gouda. Chefs also prepare bright starters like buffalo mozzarella tossed with homemade pesto and a light curry coconut soup topped with fried prawns.
Dining shifts between the main restaurant floor, the upper winter garden, and the sun-drenched freiterrasse depending on the weather. Large windows frame uninterrupted sightlines across the schlosssee, positioning every table directly above the waterline. This lakeside setting earned the establishment a 1.5 spoon rating from the Schlemmer Atlas, which highlights the paired seafood platters and champagne service. Guests usually book the glass-enclosed rooms during cooler months and transfer outdoors once summer arrives, following the established rhythms of German cooking.
