The story
Coda in Berlin began as a dessert bar in 2016 before evolving into a two Michelin star venue celebrated for its dessert-inspired cuisine. Co-owner René Frank and Head Chef Julia Leitner have directed the kitchen since day one, translating patisserie methods into savory plates. Their framework removes standard course divisions entirely. Diners navigate a continuous sequence where fermentation deepens the character of local harvests.
The kitchen pairs gentle sweetness with roasted roots, cultured ingredients, and concentrated umami bases. Every plate arrives in a stripped down format that highlights individual ingredient qualities. A notable preparation combines a topinambur vanilla ice cream pop, caviar coating, and a white pecan chocolate shell. This precise construction supports their broader dedication to climate conscious sourcing within their pastry-driven cooking.
Restrained urban architecture defines the dining room, using low lighting and clean lines to encourage quiet concentration. A prominent bar counter bridges the guest space and the fully exposed kitchen. Visitors observe the service rhythm while sipping from an integrated beverage list. The selection shifts between natural sparkling wines, mature German Rieslings, and Japanese sake, complemented by carefully matched non alcoholic options.
