The story
The Whisky Café in St Ives serves a globally inspired cuisine that replaces rigid rules with small plates for sharing and larger plates for indulging. Owner Samuel Purchas opened the venue in November 2024 after transforming the former Robin Hood Pub into a contemporary space built around fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The kitchen moves from street food style bites to indulgent mains with a twist, a method that earned the venue two AA Rosettes and a Prestige Awards title in its first year. Diners can mix and match portions freely, keeping the focus squarely on big taste and seasonal produce.
Signature whisky cocktails anchor a drinks list that balances global inspiration with local character. Bartenders layer unexpected craft creations alongside smooth, slow sips, ensuring every glass feels curated rather than standard. The ground floor cocktail bar flows directly into the newly opened Distillery Room, where guests attend wine tasting sessions and masterclasses without leaving the building. Service maintains consistent quality across these different drinking zones, ensuring the international cooking remains the steady centre of attention.
A complete refurbishment split the venue into distinct environments while keeping a unified energy. The first floor houses the main restaurant and The Oak Room, a private dining facility featuring a champagne bar for intimate gatherings. Downstairs, the Garden Room provides a dedicated spot for lunches before transitioning into the evening service. Modern furnishings and clear sightlines support the crew’s approachable style, letting the worldly flavours drive every conversation.
